Some days are remembered.
Some days are witnessed.
Some days become family history.
8th August 2026 is one of them.
What is Ngurario?
Ngurario
In Agĩkũyũ tradition, Ngurario, also known as Gũtinia Kĩande
(the cutting of the shoulder), is far more than a ceremony.
It is the public honouring of a marriage, the formal joining of two families, the cultural honouring of a union already blessed before God, affirming the marriage before family, elders, and community according to Agĩkũyũ custom.
Held towards the culmination of the Rũracio (dowry) process, it marks the moment when the union is publicly affirmed and celebrated before all.
To witness a Ngurario is to be counted among those who stood with the family on the day two families became one, and a new chapter began.
